Below the Upper Dam
...an area of historical significance.

Joel Foster, founder of River Falls, spent his first winter in 1848 near this bluff. This is a view toward the north from the bank of the South Fork at its confluence with the Kinnickinnic. Atop the bluff is one of the two municipal electric power plants on the river. The smoke stack is a remnant of what was once known as Junction Mill . Here stood the most prosporous flour milling operation in the area during the 1870's and 80's. Adjacent to the power plant and obscured by the trees is the upper dam.

Here the South Fork meets the "Kinni". This is a view from the same vantage point as the above picture but toward the south. A bridge to the opposite side of the South Fork was erected here around the turn of the century.
