Seen here is the "Benco Commercial Building" on the northeast corner of Walnut and Main St. In the 1890's, this two story building featured a community meeting hall upstairs and J. W. Allards dry goods store below. In that era, this was a very lively corner on Saturday afternoons and evenings. Farming families came to town to make their weekly purchases and socialize. Today the upper level of this building is apartments and below are a variety of shops. |
