PUBLIC/CITIZEN COMMENTS –

Jeanne Zirbel welcomed the new Council Representative Bob Ebert to the Commission. She also thanked Planning Intern Matt Parent for his help and wished him luck as his internship with the City ends.

BUSINESS –

1. Update: Leadership River Falls Plaque Project

The photographs were received from Ellsworth. Parent will scan them and save to a CD so the original photographs can be returned. He also gave a CD to Margaret Smith with some of the other photographs on it so their artist may begin work on the sketches.

Lucero, Zirbel and Margaret Smith also met and the Leadership River Falls Group has decided to go with an 8"x8" plaque rather than 10"x10" due to the cost. The group has been able to raise some of the money needed for this project. They hope to have the project completed by August.

2. Update: Research Achieved on Freight and Passenger Railway Express House

This project is still a work in progress. Parent did add that the new intern that will be starting is a History Major and that she may be able to move forward with some of the necessary research.

3. Historic Preservation Month – Letter to the River Falls Journal and Proclamation for National Preservation Month

Zirbel and Lucero met to draft a letter to the River Falls Journal to be submitted as a Letter to the Editor to highlight the work of the Historic Preservation Commission as well as upcoming events.

Kukuska felt that it was important to keep the community involved in the Commission’s work and invite the public to the dedication of Glen Park and the swinging bridge.

The consensus was to go with the Draft #2 with the following changes:

2nd paragraph, 2nd sentence:

Delete "and prehistoric".

3rd paragraph, 3rd sentence should read:

"On June 14th at 10:30 a.m. the Historic Preservation Commission will hold a public plaque dedication ceremony for local landmarks, Glen Park and the Glen Park Swinging Bridge."

The draft can then be finalized and sent to the Journal for publication before the ceremony with an additional reminder article or letter the week of the dedication.

4. June Agenda Items

- Burgsteiner would like to talk about photographing the downtown area buildings individually and look at budgeting this as an annual or biannual project of the Commission.

- Update on Leadership River Falls Project and artist drawings.

ADJOURNMENT – Meeting adjourned at 7:08 p.m.

Respectfully Submitted,

Jessica Urbach, Recording Secretary
