APPROVAL OF AGENDA/MINUTES – Burgsteiner made a correction to the June 20, 2007 minutes regarding a typo on point number 6. Lights for Glover School House. "The" needs to be removed from in front of Lucero.

MSC Burgsteiner/Alton to approve the minutes, with correction, of June 20, 2007. Unanimous.

PUBLIC/CITIZEN COMMENTS – Stokke participated in the discussion of the new business.

NEW BUSINESS

1. Plaques:

  • Freeman House – State and National Register

  • Glen Park Swimming Pool - State and National Register, Informational

  • Swinging Bridge – Local Designation

  • Forsland will bring prices to the Commission for plaques that are similar and one size larger then the one that was most recently placed at Glen Park near the pool entrance. The Commission would like to see two plaques placed together so they can be viewed as you are walking onto the swinging bridge and as you are walking off of the swinging bridge. The plaques would give information about the history of the swinging bridge and the history of Glen Park, respectively. Woolsey suggested that there be guidelines written up for each kind of plaque so the plaques are recognizable by just viewing them. A guideline could be drawn up for plaques that are going on houses, on businesses and in parks or other historical landmarks.

    2. Discussion Regarding Landscaping along Junction Mill Smokestack Pathway

Prior to the meeting, the Commission met at the Smokestack to view possibilities for the landscape, arbor, and benches. They then moved to Glen Park to view the swinging bridge and the plaques placed near the pool house. It is the direction of the Commission to staff to make the first priority in the budget money to purchase the plaques. Any money that is left over will be used for plants near the smokestack walkway. Alton will talk to a private party about building an arbor to place over the start of the brick pathway. Zirbel will pay for a bench near the end of the brick pathway. The Commission would like the City to put down sod near the pathway, which would be easier to maintain.

    3. 2008 Budget

    The 2008 budget was discussed:

MSC Burgsteiner/Kukuska to submit to the City the budget as above and discussed at the June 2007 meeting. Unanimous.

    4. 2007 National Preservation Conference

Zirbel indicated that she would like to go on Friday and/or Saturday of the Conference. Kukuska said she would like to go one of the other days.

    5. Lights for Glover School House

There will probably need to be four lights placed on the outside of the schoolhouse. A wall-mounted gooseneck was decided on, with a wire guard for the light bulb. The light was chosen out of a company catalog and the color red was chosen. Forsland will advise Planning Director Lucero on the decision of the Commission.

    Adjournment – Meeting adjourned at 8:29 p.m.

    Respectfully submitted,

    Molly McLagan, Recording Secretary
