APPROVAL OF AGENDA/MINUTES MSC Alton/Most to approve the minutes of August 15, 2007. Unanimous.

PUBLIC/CITIZEN COMMENTS – Lucero talked about eh Twin Cities Historic Prservation Conference. There are 2 tickets. Lucero is using one ticket and Zirbel and Kukuska are sharing the other. Lucero also mentioned the Wisconsin State Preservation Conference, which is held in Eau Claire this October. Alton indicated that she is interested in attending.

NEW BUSINESS – None

OLD BUSINESS
1. Freeman House/Glen Park Pool – State and National Register Plaque

Lucero shared with the Commission the lettering of the plaque that came back from the chosen company. The Commission is concerned because the chosen font is in all capital letters, making it difficult to read. This company can send this plaque to another company to make this lettering in both upper and lower case but it would probably cost more money and would take more time. The other option would be to use the same company, keeping the plaques consistent but choosing a different font. The Commission asked that Lucero look into this.

2. Glen Park and Swinging Bridge Plaques

Woolsey would like the working on the Swinging bridge sign to be clarified to name the dam that the bridge was built over. The dam was called the "Cascade Mill Dam". There was a discussion regarding putting the date on the plaques for the Historic Places. The Commission decide they would like to leave the date on the plaque for the year that the place was put on the list of Historic Places to keep the plaques consistent.

3. Discussion Regarding Landscaping along Junction Mill Smokestack Pathway

Lucero checked with Utilities and Public Works regarding the grass planting and mowing near the Smokestack. The upper area should be left along by the City so the Commission can have flowers planted in that area. In the lower 2 areas, sod should be put down all the way to the Smokestack. The Utilities will water this area if necessary. The arbor is done, Alton called Digger’s Hotline and the man who built the Arbor will install it. The River Falls Chapter of the Pierce County Historical Association donated the arbor. Alton is going to have a sign made to recognize who donated the arbor. Zirbel is going to place a bench close to the Smokestack. Woolsey asked if the River Falls Journal could be contacted to do a story on the work that has been done once the arbor and the bench is in place.

Other Business

Concern was brought up that businesses and homes are not putting the plaques on the buildings that are being recognized. It was discussed that a letter of explanation should accompany the plaque and a letter sent to the past recipient. Kukuska state that letters should specifically explain that bolts should be placed in the grout joint, not in the brick. This subject will be brought back next month for discussion.

Adjournment – Meeting adjourned at 7:04 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Molly McLagan, Recording Secretary
