Look for these titles in the new book section at the
front of the library!
In The
Shape Shifter by Tony Hillerman, Joe Leaphorn is enticed to
return to work by an old case that continues to haunt him. In 1965,
fugitive Ray Shawnack was supposed to have died in a blaze that
consumed a trading post. But now Joe has been sent a picture of a
priceless tribal rug that was also thought to have burned in the fire.
If the rug survived, could Shawnack have escaped as well? When the man
who brought the photo to Leaphorn's attention goes missing, Leaphorn
must pick up the threads of a crime he'd thought impossible to
untangle.
The Android's
Dream by John Scalzi, finds Harry Creek, a mid-level diplomat
with Earth's State Department, thrown into protecting pet store owner
Robin Baker, whose own past holds the key to the whereabouts of a lost
sheep that can save the planet from enslavement to a vastly superior
alien race. Really.
The
Last Wife of Henry VIII by Carolly Erickson, presents a
fictional portrait of Catherine Parr, the sixth wife of Henry VIII,
following this alluring and resourceful woman from the intrigues and
perils of Henry's court to her rivalry with Princess Elizabeth for the
affections of Thomas Seymour.
St.
Lucy's Home for Girls Raised by Wolves by Karen Russell, is a
collection of short stories including Ava wrestles the alligator,
Z.Z.'s sleep-away camp for disordered dreamers, Star-gazer's log of
summer-time crime, Lady Yeti and the palace of artificial snows, and
the title story, about a pack of girls raised by wolves who are
painstakingly reeducated by nuns.
The
Rivers of War by Eric Flint, is an alternate history set on
America's western frontier, set amidst the War of 1812, the defeat of
Napoleon in Europe, and the British set to attack Washington. What if
at this critical point in history, the Cherokee clans united against
mutual enemies, forming an Indian Nation that also took in escaping
slaves, freed men, and others, and what role would play in such
conflicts as the Battle of New Orleans?
