Old man and the sea
by Ernest Hemingway
F Hem
In this classic Hemingway, and aren't all Hemingway's classic, the tale is
told of a Cuban fisherman and his more than heroic struggle with the
"fish". This story may be an allegory of a man's stuggle
with or against nature, or it may be an allegory of man's struggle with or
against himself, or it may be a whooping good tale; you decide.
A river runs through it and other
stories
by Norman MacLean
LP Mac (Large Print)
While many of you have seen the movie, it will be worth your while to read
the book. There is small correlation between them. The book is
really about fishing and history and is entirely enjoyable.
Moby Dick
by Herman Melville
F Mel
In an age of ecological concern when hunting whales is not politically
correct, this may not be a book to commend itself. But, as a
historical treatise, a philosophical discourse, and a whale of a tale, it
is as politically correct as it can be.

The hungry ocean: a swordboat captain's journey

Greenlaw's book is a fascinating study of the daily life of commercial

Greenlaw brings to life the characters of the five men in her crew,
including their arguments and and the jokes they play on one
another. Greenlaw also discusses what it's like to be the world's
only woman swordfish captain, tells riotously funny stories from her
career, explains in great detail the nuts and bolts of longline fishing,
and pauses to reflect on the beauty and power of the sea. The
