Emergency Warning Siren Test Dates

TORNADO WATCH:  Tornadoes are possible in your area.  Remain alert for approaching storms.

TORNADO WARNING:  A tornado has been sighted or indicated by weather radar.  If a tornado warning is issued for your area and the sky becomes threatening, move to your pre-designated place of safety.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH:  Severe thunderstorms are possible in your area.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING:  Severe thunderstorms are occurring.

The City of River Falls maintains a severe weather outdoor siren network designed to provide generalized warnings to citizens of impending severe weather conditions.  The attached map identifies the locations of these sirens.

If there is impending severe weather, including a severe thunderstorm warning or tornado warning, the River Falls Police Department authorizes activation of the siren system for public notification.  Once this system is activated, it may be reactivated several times to continue the warning as conditions or time permits.  Citizens are encouraged to be on the alert for hazardous weather conditions and the following is recommended:

bulletIf bad weather threatens, tune to your local radio or television station for weather updates.
bulletIf weather sirens sound notifying citizens of impending dangerous weather conditions, or if local news media advise, take cover immediately.
bulletMonitor local media broadcasts for updates and follow their advice.  A flashlight and battery powered radio should also be readily available in case the electric power goes off.

It should be noted that once the local weather siren system is activated, there will be no notification indicating an all clear.  It is the citizen's responsibility to monitor weather conditions, news media, etc..., making their own judgment decisions in regards to all clear decisions.

The following link to the National Weather Service provides access to several information resources, including information on thunderstorms / lightning and tornadoes.  The police department also has access to some of these materials.  Please contact the River Falls Police Department at 715-425-0909 for further information.
